LUXEMBOURG (Reuters) – Lexus plans to release a new SUV for 2020 that is more than twice as fuel-efficient as its predecessor, the company said on Monday.
The brand’s new Lexus RX450h will feature a “newly developed technology” that allows the vehicle to go from zero to 60 in 2.8 seconds and reach a top speed of 217 km/h, according to the company.
The vehicle will also be the world’s most fuel-economical, with a fuel economy of less than 30 miles per gallon (30.4 mpg).
The new SUV will be launched in the US and Europe in 2020.
The car is the latest in a line of Lexus luxury sedans that will have a range of five to 20 miles.
The new car will be made by the German luxury automaker Lexus North America, which was established in 2011.
Lexus will release a range-topping SUV for the 2019 model year, the first since its return to the US market in 2013.
The company said it will sell the new SUV in three variants, each with a different body style, including the RX450.
The models will cost between $46,000 and $57,000.
